Virtual Reality and Tourism (R)evolution

The Potential of Virtual and Augmented Reality on Tourism Industry

Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality have enormous possibilities to enhance tourism. The world is changing fast and tourism industry is not an exception. To meet the new tourism challenges, we will have to think creatively and think about out-of-the-box solutions. Good news is – there are a lot of innovative ideas for companies. And there’s no doubt that this industry have embraced these quite a lot.

Our ideas

We invite you to think, for instance, about 360º hotel room tours and destination experiences. But it is not all of it. Innovative opportunities can grow fast. And of all of them lie in integrating Virtual Reality through the customer journey. Let’s say travel agencies could be able to serve clients differently. Not only with the interior of a hotel room but also with the entire experience. Meaning the sense of how an entire trip would be for them. Starting from the airport arrival, a specific hotel, well-known monuments, restaurants, local transports or even beaches or mountains. This concept could offer the customer a customized experience. Just like help them matching their wants: to choose different rooms, touristic guides, between others. Not to forget – all of this journey could be always edited, saved, shared or even rated. Thus it would also help giving feedback to other potential customers in a more efficient way.

How about the equipment for Virtual Reality?

Also, Virtual Reality could be used for customer activations mainly shopping malls, tourism exhibitions, and also by people who have their own headsets. For instance, they use the Virtual Honeymoon of Mariott that works as a teleporter marketing campaign that helps customers chose their experiences in store. Headsets allow many experiences. Why not even visit ancient Rome or villages like Zermatt and walk there?

Augmented reality

Augmented Reality can contribute to the whole picture too. All of the tourism bodies like touristic guides or even online and offline publishers can offer Augmented Reality tools for the traveler to learn, navigate and share about every detail of their trips. Also, it is useful to use Safari-based technology to look at the 3D Model of a hotel or a monument like Eiffel Tower. Plus, for instance, on tourist agencies, there could be some changes that would offer plenty of innovation too. Usually, they display several paper brochures and travel catalogues, but guess what – possibilities with Augmented Reality and Print Media are actually endless when it comes to animated visualization. And these represent Marketing strategies too.

Think about it – providing a big experience to customers is always a step forward towards competition. And most of all, making it useful, that is the great value.
